Workshop: Interventions for Memory & Aging – A Train The Trainer Workshop
June 3, 2019 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Interventions for Memory & Aging – A Train The Trainer Workshop
Date: June 3rd, 2019
What is the Issue? Older adults notice changes in their memory, such as forgetting the name of someone they know well, misplacing their keys, or forgetting to do things they intended to do. These memory mistakes can be a source of significant worry and frustration. Many older adults are not clear whether these changes are normal and are looking for practical solutions to help them cope better in their day to day lives.
Who Should Attend? This workshop is designed for clinicians and students who work with older adults, including occupational therapists, social workers, psychologists, nurses, physicians, speech-language pathologists, and related professionals. Participants will learn about age-related memory changes (what’s normal and what’s not), health and lifestyle factors that affect memory, and evidence-based strategies that can be used to optimize memory function.
How Will This Impact Practice? Workshop participants will learn how to deliver memory intervention to older adults, with a focus on maximizing cognitive health through lifestyle enhancement and memory strategy training. Content and examples will be drawn from the Baycrest Memory and Aging Program®, a manualized 10-hour evidence-based memory intervention program for older adults with normal age-related memory changes available for purchase at https://shop.baycrest.org/collections/memory-and-aging-program.
Who Are The Facilitators? Dr. Susan Vandermorris and Dr. Angela Troyer are licensed clinical neuropsychologists with 30 collective years of experience developing, implementing, and evaluating memory interventions for older adults.
